Western tied for 3rd after day 1
October 9, 2007 on 3:50 am | In Athletics |LEMONT, Ill. - Jared Steger (Bannockburn, Ill./Northern Illinois) and Jason Woll (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) paced Western to a tie for third place after day one of competition at the John Dallio Memorial.
The Leathernecks moved up six spots in the team standings after round one by improving their combined score by 19 strokes and shooting a combined 287 in round two. They sit 12 shots back of Northern Iowa after day one.
Steger fired a three-under, 69, in round two to put himself in a tie for fourth place individually. He sits three shots back of the leader, Jordan Weber, of Northern Iowa.
One shot off of Steger’s pace for Western was Woll , who registered a combined 146 for the day. Brian Scott (Hannibal, Mo./Hannibal) finished the day tied for 22nd with a combined 150. Kyle Peterman (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville) recorded a 152, while David Marshall (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) carded a 176 to round out the scoring on day one for Western.
As a team, the Leathernecks topped the field by shooting a combined 12-under on par-5 holes. They made 26 birdies as a team as well, which was the fourth best mark by any team in the tournament.
Western’s final round tees off at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.
