Tyk named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill.- Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Tyk has been named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week after picking up two shutout victories over South Dakota State and Iowa State.

Tyk (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) had two saves in a 1-0 defeat of Summit League foe South Dakota State and followed that with an 11-save performance against the Cyclones, who were ranked 10th in last week’s regional poll.

Tyk leads The Summit League in goals-against average (0.44) and save percentage (.909) and has not allowed a goal in the last 396:38. She ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage and 11th in goals-against average.

Also nominated were Anna Pigg, IUPUI; Monica Morgan, North Dakota State; Stef Gurley, Oral Roberts; Sutton Fox, Southern Utah.

Tyk and the Westerwinds return to action this Saturday when they travel to Fargo, N.D., to play North Dakota State, Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m.
