Nine Westerwinds named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

MACOMB, Ill. - Nine Western Illinois softball players earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2006-07 academic year.

The scholar-athletes had to acquire a 3.5 GPA to qualify for the individual honor. The Westerwinds who earned the award included Kim King, Jennifer Garcia, Amy Douglas, Torie Powers, Courtney Jacobson, Lauren Furgala, Julie DePolo, Britt Mason and Lori Pankratz.

The Western Illinois softball team lost three of the award winners to graduation, but will return the other six for the 2008 season, which is set to open at the Metrodome Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn., February 14, 2008.
