Westerwinds host IUPUI for senior day
November 7, 2007 on 9:16 pm | In Athletics |MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women’s soccer team will host Summit League foe IUPUI Friday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m. at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
It is the last home game of the year for the Westerwinds and will be the last home game in the career of eight seniors. They include: Angie Guy, Misako Inaba, Delaine Pattison, Bess Rapp, Julie Remes, Liz Remes, Robyn Ruypers, and Kelly Warner.
About IUPUI
The Jaguars currently own a record of 3-9-1 with a 2-3-1 mark in The Summit League. IUPUI has conference wins over Centenary (2-1) and IPFW (4-0). Their lone non-conference win came in a 2-1 victory over Eastern Illinois, a team that tied the Westerwinds earlier this season.
Senior Sheri Levack leads the team in assists with four, and with her three goals on the season also leads the team in points with 10. Freshman MaryBeth McMillan leads the team in goals with four and has contributed nine points this season.
Sophomore Jamie Farrell has logged over 1,400 minutes in net for the Jaguars, allowing 22 goals this season. Farrell has made 109 saves which puts her at the top of the conference.
Against the Jaguars
Western Illinois currently leads 5-4-0 in the all-time series against IUPUI despite being outscored 14-13 all-time by the Jaguars. The Westerwinds are on a two-game winning streak against IUPUI. Their last meeting was in 2006 with the Westerwinds stealing a 1-0 victory on the road after a game-winning goal by senior Misako Inaba.
Winningest Team in School History
With their 2-1 double overtime victory at North Dakota State Saturday, Oct. 20, Western Illinois set a new school record for wins in a season. They now stand at 12-2-1 (5-0-0 Summit League), which beats the old record of 11 set by the 2006 squad.
All Good Things Come to an End
With the 1-0 loss at Creighton, the Westerwinds’ 11-game unbeaten streak and seven-game winning streak were ended. Both streaks were school records.
On the NCAA Leaderboard
Despite the loss at Creighton, the Westerwinds remain in the top ten in the nation for won-lost-tied percentage. They are tied for ninth with a .833 won-lost-tied percentage and also rank in the top 50 in the nation with a .853 save percentage (35th) and a .715 goals-against average (37th).
Sophomore Meghan Tyk (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) ranks seventh in save percentage (.889) and 16th in goals-against average (.535).
