Western Illinois women
November 30, 2007 on 8:10 pm | In Athletics |MACOMB, Ill. - Although the Western Illinois women’s swimming and diving team won half the events in Friday’s meet at Illinois State, the Westerwinds fell to the Redbirds, 142-101.
Western Illinois took the first victory of the night with a season-best time of 4:01.55 in the 400-yard medley relay. Freshman Kaley Rowe went on to win the 200-yard freestyle event with a season-best time of 1:54.52. Rowe took an additional individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 53.52.
In the following event, the 50-yard freestyle event, Jennifer Madgiak took first place with a time of 24.98 with teammate Amanda Smith taking second place with a time of 25.19. Madgiak also finished the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:00.51 to take first place later in the meet.
In the 100-yard butterfly event, Western Illinois’ Taylor Martin swam a 59.36. Finishing less then one second in front of Illinois State’s Amy Schafer, her time was a season-best time and good enough for a first-place finish.
Molly Carrignan, Stephanie Roley and Mykala Mareno represented the Westerwinds in diving on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Carrignan led the Western Illinois women on both boards with a score of 202.12 on the 1-meter board and a score of 211.94 on the 3-meter.
The Western Illinois women will join with the men for the next dual meet of the season at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at Eastern Illinois.
