M. Tennis Sends Four to Last Fall Tournament

NC State men's tennis will wrap up its fall season at the William & Mary Invitational by sending four players to Williamsburg, Va. over the weekend. Juniors Derek Stephens and Christian Welte will team in doubles in addition to competing in singles, and freshman Eric Turner will compete with graduate student Daniel Schinke. That pair will also play singles.

Volleyball Set for Two Weekend Home Matches

The NC State volleyball team will host Maryland and Boston College this weekend at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. The Pack will take on the Terrapins on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., before welcoming the Eagles at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. Both matches will be broadcast live online via ACC Select. Men's Basketball Hosts 1st Exhibition Game Thursday

The NC State men's basketball team kicks off its 2007-08 campaign Thursday night, hosting the first of two exhibition games. The Wolfpack will take on Barton College on Thursday, then play host to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday night. NC State's first regular season contest is November 15 against William & Mary.

Exhibition season opens Thursday night against Westminster

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois University men’s basketball team will put months of preseason preparations to the test at their first exhibition game Thursday night, tipping off against Westminster College following the women’s game which starts at 6 p.m.

Westminster, in Fulton, Mo., is a member of the NCAA Division III’s St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blue Jays finished at 15-9 last season and return 11 letterwinners and three starters. Matt Mitchell, head coach since 1998 and director of athletics since 2005, spent the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons as an assistant on Jack Margenthaler’s staff with the Leathernecks. He played collegiate basketball at Valparaiso before transferring to Arkansas where he played for Eddie Sutton and Nolan Richardson. He received his undergraduate degree in education from Arkansas in 1987 and then completed a graduate degree in recreation and park administration from Western Illinois University in 1990. Leathernecks fall 2-1 at No. 12 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. Senior Phil Duret’s late goal was not enough as the Western Illinois men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 12 Northwestern at Lakeside Field.

The Leathernecks (5-9-3) fell behind of the Wildcats (11-3-2) in the 25th minute on David Roth’s diving header to the back post, out of the reach of sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Paterson (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill). Western looked to answer back quickly, but the lone shot of the game for Martin Browne, Jr. (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo), was stopped by Justin Pines. Northwestern took the 1-0 lead into the break. Western defeats Chicago State, 3-0

MACOMB, Ill. Junior Monique Houston paced the Western Illinois volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-12, 30-15, 34-32) victory over Chicago State in the final match of the 2007 season on Waste Management Court at Western Hall. The Wheeling, Ill., native tallied 15 kills and hit .387 (15k-3e-31ta) in the non-conference victory.

“I really liked the things that I saw from Monique,” said head coach Kym McKay. “She has been playing at another level. Every ball that she hits is either a kill or forcing teams to struggle with the ball on the other side of the net. Illinois University Centennial Honors College majoring in political
science with a pre-law minor, was selected as the University’s
recipient of the 2007 Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate
Award.

Westerwinds set to start 2007-08 season with two exhibition games

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois women’s basketball team begins the 2007-08 season with two exhibition games on Waste Management Court at Western Hall. The Westerwinds first face Illinois-Springfield, Thursday, November 1 at 6 p.m. and then battle with Lewis, Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m.

The Prairie Stars finished the 2006-07 campaign with a 15-17 overall mark and a 10-5 record in the American Midwest Conference. UIS’s season ended on March 1, 2007 with a loss to Columbia College in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament, 73-82. Westerwinds look to lock up Summit League

MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women’s soccer team looks to lock up The Summit League regular season title as it travels to Centenary Friday, Nov. 2, and to Oral Roberts Sunday, Nov. 4.

The Westerwinds (13-2-1, 6-0-0 The Summit League) have guaranteed themselves at least a share of the regular season conference title, but with at least a tie in one of their two final regular season games, will clinch the regular season title outright.
