The loss sends the Pack to 3-1 (1-1 ACC) on the year, while the Hokies climb to 6-3 (1-2 ACC).

December 28, 2007 on 5:47 am | In Athletics | No CommentsDespite several victories and noteworthy performances, NC State women's swimming and diving fell to Virginia Tech, 184-116, on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Casey Natatorium in Raleigh. The Pack now holds a 2-3 (0-2 ACC) slate, while VT improves to 8-2 (2-1 ACC). “We got strong performances today from a lot of people,” said head coach Brooks Teal. “Virginia Tech is a good team, and they came in after a strong showing at an event in Chapel Hill. You always hate to be on the losing end of a meet, but a lot of our kids performed well.”

The Mavericks (7-0) came out firing early on as Brandon Long connected on a three-pointer 46-seconds into the game, for an early 3-0 lead. David DuBois hit a long jumper to pull the Leathernecks (2-5) back within one point. After another bucket for UTA, David Jackson came up with a block on a layup attempt, which then translated into a James Washington fast break layup that made it a one-point game again at 5-4. Campbell takes first, Western Illinois takes fourth at House of Champions Invitational
December 26, 2007 on 9:10 pm | In Athletics | No CommentsINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Junior diver Eric Campbell took first place out of 16 divers, while Western Illinois took fourth at the House of Champions Invitational hosted by IUPUI.
Campbell took first on both boards with a score of 310.00 on the 3-meter and a 288.20 on the 1-meter. Teammate Anthony Holzhauer took third place on both boards with a score of 276.40 on the 3-meter and 266.00 on the 1-meter.
Ball State won the meet out of eight teams on the women’s side. The Westerwinds had a fourth-place score of 451, finishing ahead of Summit League teams IUPUI and Eastern Illinois, as well as the University of Indianapolis and Butler. Western falls to Wichita State 65-62
December 26, 2007 on 8:20 pm | In Athletics | No CommentsWICHITA, Kan. Senior Gina Hugelier tallied a season-high 13 points and added three rebounds and assists in the Western Illinois women’s basketball team’s 65-62 loss to Wichita State at Charles Koch Arena.
The Shockers (3-4, 0-0 Missouri Valley) started a 17-5 run with ten minutes remaining in the second half to tie the game and pull ahead by as many as six points over a seven-minute span. The Westerwinds’ (1-5, 0-0 The Summit League) only points during the run came from the free throw line.
Senior Stephanie Lovingood hit Western’s next two field goals to get the team within two points. Wichita State then stepped up its defense and only allowed the Westerwinds to score three more points the rest of the game while tallying four of its own to earn the victory. Jackson's 28 not enough in 72-59 loss to Texas-Pan American
December 25, 2007 on 9:50 pm | In Athletics | No CommentsMACOMB, Ill. David Jackson poured in a season-high 28 points to lead Western Illinois, but it was not enough as Texas-Pan American won 72-59.
The Broncs (4-2) grabbed their first and final lead of the game, 7-6, on a three-pointer by Paul Stoll with 12:54 left in the first half. After another UTPA bucket, the Leathernecks (2-4) answered with a layup from Jackson to cut the lead back to one. That was as close as Western came the rest of the way. Back-to-back three pointers gave the Broncs a seven-point lead, 15-8 with 8:30 left in the half. David DuBois provided the answer for Western as he converted the next eight points for the Leathernecks. He finished the first half with 14 points, after converting a layup at the buzzer to bring Western within three at the break, 26-23. The Shockers are currently 1-4 and have a chance to improve their record Thursday, November 29 when they host Nicholls State. Wichita State has lost its last four games since recording a victory November 12 over Texas Southern (57-40).
Kiki Stephens is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. She averages 9.6 points and six rebounds per game and has tallied five blocks this season.
