Reservations being taken for January 19 football banquet

MACOMB, Ill. - Reservations are now being accepted for Western Illinois University’s postseason football banquet, which will be held Saturday, January 19 and will be emceed by WGEM-TV Sports Director Ben Marth.

Doors will open at noon for the annual awards banquet which will officially begin with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. in the University Union Grand Ballroom. The awards presentation will immediately follow lunch, and the program will conclude with the unveiling of the 2007 highlight video.

Western finishes up five-game road swing at Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Western Illinois women’s basketball team will play in the final game of a five-game road swing when it faces Southern Utah, Monday, January 7 in Cedar City, Utah. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. (CST) at Centrum Arena.

About Southern Utah
Like the Westerwinds, the Thunderbirds are coming off a come-from-behind conference victory, Saturday, January 5. Southern Utah recorded a 61-56 win over IUPUI at Centrum Arena, while Western earned a 68-54 victory over UMKC at Municipal Auditorium. Wolfpack Women Drop ACC Opener at BC

NC State lost its ACC opener at Boston College on Sunday, 60-59. Shayla Fields led the Wolfpack with 16 points, while Khadijah Whittington and Sharnise Beal each tossed in 13 points.

ACC Season Gets Underway Sunday at Boston College

The Wolfpack may have compiled a 12-3 record leading up to ACC play, but this year is just like any other. The success of your season is judged primarily within tyour wins and losses of conference play. NC State will look for a fifth straight win at Boston College this Sunday at 1 pm. Despite this week's frigid temperatures, the attentions of many Wolfpackersare already focused on the start of baseball. With the season opener just seven weeks from today, Wolfpack Club members, Rally Club members, & season ticket holders now have their applications in the mail to order 2008 season tickets. Dail Park attendance records have been broken each of the past three years, prompting NC State administration to adjust how they are handling gameday operations this upcoming season. For the fans, that means some enhanced amenities & new opportunities available exclusively to season ticket holders.

Wolfpack Tops Presbyterian For 6th Straight Win

Maybe it wasn't pretty. Maybe the margin of victory was lower than many might have expected. And maybe NC State wasn't as offensively patient or refined as it hoped to be against a first-year Division I opponent. But the bottom line from NC State's 50-43 victory over Presbyterian Saturday afternoon at the RBC Center is that the Wolfpack recorded its sixth consecutive victory. “We have won six in a row, right?” said senior Gavin Grant. “I thought maybe [the way some people are acting] we had lost six in a row.”

Westerwinds fall to Kansas State, 68-53, in final non-conference game of the season

MANHATTAN, Kan. Senior Stephanie Lovingood tallied a team-high 13 points in the Western Illinois women’s basketball team’s 68-53 loss to Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Westerwinds (3-9, 1-0 The Summit League) opened the scoring at 18:54 when senior Gina Hugelier hit a jumped after netting one of her six offensive rebounds. The score remained close until Western started a 6-0 run over a three-minute span to take a 10-7 advantage. The Wildcats (8-5, 0-0 Big 12) then returned the favor with a 4-0 run from the 13-minute mark until 10:30 remaining to retake the lead (11-10). Leathernecks fall 73-60 at Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Three players landed in double figures, but it was not enough as the Western Illinois basketball team fell 73-60 at Southern Utah.

Strong shooting in the first half by the Thunderbirds (4-10, 2-1 Summit) helped them jump out to an early 6-4 lead with 16:39 left in the half. SUU would then extend its lead to double figures behind a 15-4 run over the next 5:05. David Jackson silenced that run with a reverse layup at the 11:17 mark, cutting the deficit for the Leathernecks (5-8, 0-2 Summit) to 11 points at 21-10. Western could not get any closer in the first half, as Southern Utah was able to stretch its lead to as many as 21, before taking a 38-19 lead at the break.
