MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University offers two “Rookie-MVP”
Baseball Clinics in January. The first clinic will be held Sunday, Jan.
13 and the second clinic is slated for Sunday, Jan. 27. Both clinics
are held in Western Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Limited space is
available in each clinic.

The individualized introductory-to-advanced level instruction is open
to players six years or older. Players will be taught pitching,
hitting, defense, base running, bunting, nutrition, weight training,
conditioning, and teamwork.

Players who attend both clinics will receive advanced, specialized instruction and drills during their second clinic.

Cost for one clinic is only $75 if paid in advance by Dec. 31. Advance
payment for two clinics is $125 by the deadline. After Dec. 31, the
cost for one clinic is $80 and $135 for both, if paid in advance. On
site registration is $85 the day of each clinic.

Head coach Stan Hyman, Western Illinois’ first-ever Mid-Con Coach of
the Year, will direct the camps. Leatherneck assistant coaches Tom Radz
(pitching/catching), Brock Bainter (hitting/outfield), and Matt
Newquist (infield) also will serve as instructors at the camps. The
Western Illinois baseball team also will be present and work the
clinics.

“We’ve had tremendous response to these clinics for the last six
years,” Coach Hyman said. “Approximately 80-100 players have attended
each clinic which fill up very quickly. With our staff numbering more
than 40 instructors, we’ve been able to maintain an almost 2:1 ratio of
staff to players. So each player gets individualized attention to their
game.”

“Early registration has been great,” Hyman continued. “Approximately 40
players from Chicago to Iowa to Missouri to Macomb have already
registered. All age groups, from Little League to college bound
players, are taking advantage of the savings by signing up early. I
expect the clinics will be filled up by early January.”
