Costner's Scoring, Team's FTs Lead Pack to 85-77 Win

The first half of NC State's 85-77 victory over Cincinnati Sunday night at the RBC Center belonged to Brandon Costner who broke out of an early-season slump by scoring 10 of the Wolfpack's first 14 points. But the second half belonged to the Wolfpack's free throw shooters, as they put the Bearcats away by making 27 of 37 free throw after intermission. For the game, the Wolfapck attempted an unofficial school record 50 shots from the line, making 37. Cincinnati attempted only 14 on the evening, making 10. Free-throw acumen allowed second-year head coach Sidney Lowe's team to put away the Bearcats down the stretch. Costner, who had hit double figures in only four of the Pack's first nine games, made all five of his field goal attempts before halftime, including three from 3-point range, to notch 13 points before the break. He finished with a game-high 20 points, leading four Wolfpack players in double figures.
