Hugelier named Summit League co-Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois women’s basketball player Gina Hugelier earned The Summit League’s co-Player of the Week honor today after helping the Westerwinds (5-9, 3-0 Summit League) to a 2-1 mark last week.

Hugelier earns the Co-Player of the Week award after leading the Westerwinds to a pair of key league road victories over UMKC (68-54) and Southern Utah (58-39). Western also dropped a non-league game at Kansas State (68-53) last week.

The Elmhurst, Ill., native averaged 16.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg in the three games, including a season-high 23 points against the Thunderbirds. Hugelier was 15-of-16 from the free throw line and shot 40 percent from behind the arc. She is now 21-of-22 from the line in three Summit League games and Western is a perfect 3-0 in league play, a tie for first with Oral Roberts.

The senior earned her first player of the week honor for the 2007-08 season and the second of her career. She was co-player of the week with Lisa Bue from North Dakota State University.

The Westerwinds return home for the first time since December 16, 2007 when they face North Dakota State, Saturday, January 12 at 4:30 p.m. on Waste Management Court at Western Hall. Western also squares off with South Dakota State, Monday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in Macomb.
