Westerwinds defeat conference rival IUPUI at Quadrangular Meet
February 15, 2008 on 9:25 pm | In Athletics |INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Western Illinois’ men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took third place of eight in the 200-yard medley relay to start the competition at the quadrangular meet hosted by IUPUI, Friday.
The Jaguars, Ball State and Saint Louis were all in competition against Western, with the Westerwinds defeating conference rival IUPUI. Freshman Kaley Rowe took two, second-place finishes of eight swimmers with her first finish in the 200-yard freestyle event and her second in the 100-yard freestyle event. Rowe’s time of 1:55.68 in the 200-yard freestyle event missed first place by less than one second.
Shannon Nelson, Taylor Martin, Lauren Trondle and Laura Dinkelmann all touched the wall in enough time to take home finishes in the top half. In women’s diving, Molly Carrignan finished in fourth of 13 on the 3-meter board with a score of 215.60.
On the men’s side, divers Anthony Holzhauer and Eric Campbell finished in the top third on both boards. Holzhauer took first place on the 1-meter board with a score of 311.75, while Campbell took third place with a 281.95. Of the nine male divers Campbell took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 298.45, while Holzhauer took third with a 288.18.
Both the Leathernecks and Westerwinds will travel from Indiana to Iowa for a dual meet against the Hawkeyes, January 18 at 5 p.m.
