Westerwinds drop season opener to DePaul 7-0
February 24, 2008 on 8:25 pm | In Athletics |CHICAGO- The Western Illinois women’s tennis team fell in their season opener to DePaul by a score of 7-0.
“I thought we competed expceptionally well for the first match of the season,” stated Western Illinois head coach Michael Hunt. “DePaul is very talented and will be nationally ranked before the season is over.”
Freshman Kate Kennedy (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) appeared in her first collegiate match and battled in the opening set at No. 4 singles before dropping the match 6-3, 6-1. DePaul swept all six singles matches along with the all three doubles matches.
The Westerwinds will resume action Sunday, February 3, when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to play Northern Iowa.
