Leathernecks take sixth at Carlton Oaks Invitational to start spring season
April 15, 2008 on 9:30 pm | In Athletics |SANTEE, Calif. - Kyle Peterman paced the Western Illinois men’s golf team to a sixth place finish in its first tournament of the spring season.
Peterman finished four shots off the pace of the leaders and took home sole possession of 13th place with a three-round score of 228 (76-75-77). One shot behind Peterman was Jared Steger, who was competing independently. Steger bounced back from an opening round 82 to finish the tournament with a 229 (82-74-73). Brian Scott finished one stroke ahead of Ryan Franks as Scott carded a 237 (76-75-77) and Franks registered a 238 (80-83-75). Austin Lambert rounded out the team scoring for the Leathernecks with a 242 (81-82-79). Shane Kwaterski also competed independently, scoring a 244 (83-77-84).
Western shot a combined 933 to take sixth as a team while Point Loma Nazarene took home their third team title of the season with a score of 889. Michael Mulieri of Loyola College collected the individual title with a score of 219 (72-74-73)
The Leathernecks have a month off until they return to competition. Their next tournament is March 23-24 in Pinehurst, N.C., for the Pinehurst Invitational.
