Leathernecks to close regular season Saturday at IUPUI

this week, visiting second-place IUPUI Saturday. A win would give
Western the opportunity to move up as many as two spots in The Summit
League rankings. The Leathernecks enter the week in seventh place, a
half game behind Southern Utah and one and a half games behind North
Dakota State, both of which play two games this week.

The Summit League Championship Right Around the Corner
The Summit League Championship will be held in Tulsa beginning next week, with first-round games scheduled for Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC.
Eight teams will appear in the tournament, excluding first-year members North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
10-4 Record at Home is Best Since 1998-99
Western Illinois amassed a 10-4 record this season at Western Hall, the best home court record since going 11-0 in 1998-99.
12 Wins Matches Most Under Thomas
The Leathernecks’ 12 wins this season are the most under Coach Thomas, and the most for a Western Illinois team since 2001-02 (12-16). The seven Summit League victories are the most since the 2004-05 team went 7-9.
Jackson Nearing 8th on Career Scoring List
After becoming Western Illinois’ Division I career scoring leader earlier this season, senior David Jackson is 31 points away from eighth place on the school’s all-time career scoring list.
His 1,418 career points make him the first player to break the 1,400-point barrier since Joe Dykstra (1978-83).
Jackson is also the first player in Western’s Division I era to lead the team in scoring three consecutive years.
The IUPUI Series
Western Illinois will be looking for its first win in Indianapolis, as IUPUI has won all 10 meetings with the Leathernecks on its home court, and leads the all-time series, 20-7. The Jaguars have won 19 straight games against the Leathernecks.
Since the Last Meeting…
Since IUPUI visited Western Hall in December and handed the Leathernecks a 64-47 loss, the Jaguars have gone 16-4 and reached second place in The Summit League. A loss at Oakland last week snapped an eight-game winning streak.
Holding Opponents Under 70
The Leathernecks are 11-2 when allowing fewer than 70 points this season, and are 1-12 when allowing 70 or more points.
Washington Scores Big
James Washington averaged 18.5 points per game last week, scoring 19 at IPFW and 18 at Oakland. He shot 43.5 percent (10-23) from the field, 60 percent (6-10) from three-point range and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the free throw line last week. He also led the team in assists (7) and steals (3).

5-2 When Shooting 50 Percent
In its last outing, Western shot 53 percent from the floor, surpassing the 50 percent mark for the seventh time this year. The losing effort, however, made the Leathernecks 5-2 when shooting above 50 percent.
DuBois Matches Career High of 20 Points
David DuBois led the Leathernecks in scoring at Oakland, matching a career high of 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting. It was the second 20-point effort of the season for DuBois, who is averaging 9.5 points per game. He also scored 20 against Culver-Stockton in December.
Johnson Sees First Start, Career High
Freshman Delvon Johnson saw the first start of his career at Oakland, and responded with a career-high 10 points. He also chipped in five rebounds and three blocks.
