Leathernecks release spring schedule, Big Ten teams Northwestern and Wisconsin come to Macomb
April 28, 2008 on 8:30 pm | In Athletics |MACOMB, Ill. The Western Illinois men’s soccer team has announced its 2008 spring schedule which features five games, including Big Ten members Northwestern and Wisconsin, at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
Spring ball kicks off March 29 with a double header at home as the Leathernecks welcomes in Wisconsin-Milwaukee for a 2 p.m. contest. The Panthers finished 2007 with a 5-12-3 mark, which included a record of 5-2-1 in the Horizon League. They made it to the semi-finals of the Horizon League tournament before falling to UIC 1-0 in overtime. The second game features Truman State at 4 p.m.
Western heads to Loyola April 5, to take on the Ramblers and Wisconsin-Parkside. Loyola captured the 2007 Horizon League regular season title with a mark of 5-1-2 and 10-5-4 overall.
April 12 has the Leathernecks traveling to St. Louis for the Governor’s Cup. Western takes on Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. The Huskies defeated the Leathernecks 1-0 this past season. The second game in the Governor’s Cup will be against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville or Eastern Illinois. Western faced Eastern during the 2007 season, winning 3-0.
The spring season closes out with three straight games in Macomb. April 19, the Leathernecks battle Wisconsin at 1 p.m. The following day features a doubleheader at MacKenzie Field. The day opens at 1 p.m. as Big Ten Northwestern comes in, with Western looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Wildcats from the fall. The spring slate wraps up that afternoon with a 3 p.m. matchup against Lincoln College.
