Leathernecks tie for third at Grover Page Classic
May 10, 2008 on 9:50 pm | In Athletics |JACKSON, Tenn. - Junior’s Jared Steger and Kyle Peterman each grabbed top-10 finishes to pace the Western Illinois men’s golf team as it tied for third place at the Grover Page Classic hosted by Tennessee-Martin.
Steger finished six shots off the lead as he carded a two-round score of 146 (72-74) to give him a share of fifth place individually and to pace the Leathernecks. One shot behind his teammate was Peterman with a 147 (76-71), who tied for eighth place. Making a strong showing just one-stroke out off a top-10 finish was junior Jason Woll as he registered a 148 (71-77). Sophomore Ryan Franks recorded a 152 (77-75) while fellow sophomore Bryan Scott rounded out the scoring for Western with a 155 (83-72).
The third place finish was the highest for the Leathernecks so far this season. Western shot 588 (296-292) and finished four strokes behind tournament champion Central Arkansas, which collected a 584 (295-289). Lipscomb’s Cory Parkinson took home the individual title with a 140 (69-71).
The Leathernecks head to North Carolina for a tournament March 23-24 at historic Pinehurst.
