Leathernecks to tee-off at historic Pinehurst
May 29, 2008 on 8:10 pm | In Athletics |MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois men’s golf team continues its season with a trip to Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, March 16-18.
Pinehurst No. 8 plays host to the three-day tournament. Competition is scheduled to start Sunday at 8 a.m. Live stats and scoring can be viewed at www.golfstat.com.
Other teams competing in the tournament are co-hosts East Carolina, Indiana and Ball State. Also joining the field are Eastern Kentucky, IUPUI, Marquette, Marshall, Miami University, Penn State, St. Mary’s, Hartford, North Carolina-Greensboro, North Carolina-Wilmington, San Francisco, Toledo, Wisconsin, Western Carolina and Western Illinois.
The Leathernecks are coming off their best team finish of the season, as they grabbed a tie for third place in the Grover Page Classic hosted by Tennessee-Martin, March 3-4. Jared Steger led the attack, finishing with a share of fifth place. Not far behind were teammates Kyle Peterman who tied for eighth, and Jason Woll who missed a top-ten finish by one stroke.
For his efforts in the Grover Page Classic, Steger was named golfer of the week in The Summit League. It was the first honor of the year for the transfer from Northern Illinois. The award also marked the first individual award for a Western golfer this season.
