Leathernecks leading by 12 strokes after first day of Beu/Mussatto Invitational
July 5, 2008 on 9:05 pm | In Athletics |MACOMB, Ill. - Junior Jared Steger (Bannockburn, Ill./Northern Illinois) is tied for first-place and paced the Western Illinois men’s golf team to the top position after two rounds of the 2008 Beu/Mussatto Invitational at Harry Mussatto Golf Course.
Steger is tied for first with South Dakota State’s Trent Peterson. Both players are even with a 144 after the first two rounds of competition. Leatherneck junior Shane Kwaterski (Bailey’s Harbor, Wis./Gibraltar) is in third-place with a +1 (145-75,70), while Kyle Peterman rounds out Western’s top-10 players with a 147 (72,75), good for sixth.
The Leathernecks moved into first-place in the second round, after trailing Indian Hills Community College by just two strokes after round one. Western saw solid performances from Steger (70), Kwaterski (70), and sophomore Brian Scott (71), to move them into the lead with a +8. Indian Hills is second in the team standings with a +20.
The Western Illinois Gold team is tied for sixth-place overall. Junior Austin Lambert (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) is leading the squad with a 149 (77,72), while sophomore Ryan Franks (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) is one stroke behind with a 150 (78,72).
Fellow Summit League member South Dakota State is in third-place, with Green Bay and Oakland tied for fourth. Lindenwood is tied for sixth with the Western Illinois Gold team, while St. Ambrose, Parkland Community College, and IUPUI round out the top-10.
The final 18 holes will be played, Saturday, April 5, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. A complete list of tee times cane be found at www.wiuathletics.com on the Beu/Mussatto Invitational link on the men’s golf page. Western Illinois will tee-off starting a 8:50 a.m.
